Where I have been..
We have been busy around here getting ready to have Opa & Oma stay with us for a little while. It will be a beautiful week in Kansas City and we are planning to spent all of our time outside enjoying the sunshine and showing them around town. It will be quiet here around the blog but I will make sure to post something at the end of the week.

Cinco de mayo
Garland |
I was thinking about the next upcoming holiday Cinco de mayo. Last year, we were invited for margaritas and tacos over at our neighbors home- this kicked of a wonderful friendship between the neighbors in the building of 1820 and I can't believe it has already been a year. I hope we can all get together again this year, even though most of us have moved out of the building. Also, I love the tutorial on "Oh happy Day" for the garland. I like to believe I have time to make something like this but I have a feeling it will all be about margies and guacamole instead. So if any of you feel like being creative, let me know.

Dreaming about bikes
This summer I hope to be biking around the neighborhood. I love these Scandinavian bikes. What color would you pick? Would you add a basket? I can imagine riding my bike to the farmers market and filling the basket with all my freshly purchased groceries.

Pulled pork
This weekend, I ventured outside of my comfort zone and prepared pulled pork. By preparing, I mean I bought a hunk of pork shoulder, rubbed some spices on and put it in the oven all day. This is by far the easiest way to prepare meat. Also, you don't have a chance of over cooking the meat, the longer it can be in the oven, the better. I was looking online for inspiration as to what to do with the left-over pork. How delicious does this pulled pork sandwich look with a sharp cheese and avocado. I will be making this again for sure!

Plants
Yesterday I checked out my friends new apartment and I fell in love with it the moment I entered her home. It was bright, airy, wide open with lots and lots and lots of greenery. She has a gazillion house plants and I realized my space really lacks this. The plants add a great touch of color, they fill in tiny spaces and most importantly, they clean your air. Plants can effectively remove pollutants. Apparently 15-20 house plants can purify the inside of a 1800 square feet home according to this article. Amazing!

Psssst, have a great weekend

I am going to *finally* see the hunger games tonight with a few girl friends, I can't wait! The rest of the weekend is supposed to be a kick back and relax kind of weekend. Have a great one!
Are you superstitious?
source |
It is Friday the 13th! Are you superstitious? Are there certain things you avoid on this day? I don't avoid anything but I am a little bit more cautious- for example, I would not walk underneath a ladder. My friend has a surgical procedure scheduled today, initially I don't think she thought anything of it, but when she realized it she also didn't reschedule- I think she is pretty brave. Then again, it is just another day....
I want a tepee
via Freundevonfreunden |
I have noticed there are always a few standard items you see in a designer kids room: an eames rocking chair, a designer crib and apparently a tepee (!!!). I hadn't thought about tepees for years, until my downstairs neighbors on 1820 ordered a tepee for their loft- they figured their friends could sleep in the tepee when visiting- what a brilliant idea. The tepee however didn't last long- it ended up being too small but the idea stuck in my head. In a kids room it seems it could become the ultimate collector of toys and anything messy- in our house it would end up as a storage chest. A very very cute storage chest. Here are some of my favorites from the ol' internet.

An old fashioned anyone?
I am so happy Mad Men started back up. My favorite way to end the weekend is to sit on the couch with a cocktail and watch Mad Men. What is your favorite drink? Do you like it straight up or on the rocks? I take mine with lots of ice and slightly on the sweet side. Lately, I have been really loving the old fashioned. Here is the recipe!
2 ounces of bourbon
1 maraschino cherry
2 dashes angostura bitters
1 orange wedge
1 sugar cube
Muddle the cherry, orange wedge, sugar and bitters, add lots and lots of ice, add 2 ounces of bourbon, stir and serve!
pizza pizza
Pokes little holes in the dough with a fork
Smears on the pesto sauce
Adds the pre-cut slices of cheese
Adds the slices of tomato
....and time to eat!

Hot pink
source |
Who doesn't like pink? I love these hot pink lips but I think I would rather choose a hot pink accesorie. A little bit goes a long way, so how about a splash of pink on the lining of your trench coat, or a stripe on your favorite clutch.

Miniature
Via pikkuvarpunen |
My cousin Leonie has been collecting doll house furniture for her daughter's dollhouse. She has been scouting craigslist for furnishings and accessories. What a great idea, to start this early on and slowly built up every room in the house. I came across these hip furnishings on Etsy and love their modern and sleek look. Also, I find the wallpaper to be amazing in all of these rooms.
